Baluran welcomed as CDDRMO head

The Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) welcomed the Year of the Pig year with a new chief in (Ret.) Police Supt. Alfredo Baluran.

Baluran was formally introduced to the public during the special session of the City Council on Thursday afternoon.

Baluran, who just retired last week, served the Philippine National Police for 32 years.

He told reporters that he is currently adjusting to the work since the position will serve as a challenge for him.

“This post is very challenging in my career as a (former) law enforcer,” Baluran said during an interview after the session.

Although he said that his post as a CDDRMO had almost the same function from his former police duties, which is to “save lives”.

Baluran replaced Emmanuel Jaldon effective January 3.

“I’m working with (former CDDRMO chief) Sir Emmanuel Jaldon since he is very hands-on on the job. I need to know more and more trainings to equip myself for this assignment,” he said.

Baluran said that he will look into improving the CDDRMO’s need for more advanced equipment that would further help the office in disaster and risk related services.

“Davao City is already equipped with technology. All we have to do is manage it properly,” he said.

The new CDDRMO head is a relative of Councilor Conrado Baluran, transportation and communication chairperson.

Baluran is currently monitoring the relief assistance of the city to the Typhoon Usman affected areas in the Bicol region, namely Oriental Mindoro, Sorsogon, Albay, Camarines Sur, and Camarines Norte.

On Thursday, the city council granted Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio’s request to provide financial and relief assistance to these areas worth P10 million.
