111 Covid-19 cases recorded in Davao City as of June 2024

Dr. Tomas Miguel Ababon, head of the City Health Office (CHO), on Thursday bared that there is an increase of Covid-19 cases in Davao City in the second quarter of 2024.

Ababon reported during I-Speak media forum that in April this year, they recorded 19 cases of Covid-19 in Davao City; 74 cases in May; and 111 cases as of June 12.

Based on the data from the CHO, a total of 541 Covid-19 cases were recorded in Davao City from January 1 to June 1, 2024. In the first quarter of the year, 272 cases were recorded in January, 49 in February and 16 in March, while in the second quarter there is a total of 204 cases.

Ababon disclosed that there are 135 active cases of Covid-19 at the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) from Davao City and nearby provinces as of June 13, 2024 wherein 50 were asymptomatic, 69 mild, 15 moderate, zero severe, and one critical.

“Kasagaran aning Covid cases nato karon kay mga nag-adto ug hospital. Katong sa mga himsog na young adults, mag edad ug 60 years old below, working force – kani sila magkasakit dala-dalahon ra nila,” Ababon said.

Ababon added that they can’t confirm if it’s FLiRT variants.

The Department of Health (DOH) recently confirmed that the new “FLiRT” variants of Covid-19 have been rapidly spreading in other countries including the Philippines.

“Ang ginabuhat nato aning Covid (FLiRT) padayon ang atoang surveillance. Ang nawala kay katong isolation, nagpadayon ta ug swabbing. Sa karon most of the swabbing ginabuhat sa mga na admit kasagaran mga unvaccinated and have comorbidities such as high blood, diabetes, sakit sa baga, elderly, and the vulnerable groups. Kung magkasakit ni nga grupo, muadto ni sila ug facility,” he said.

Ababon advised the public to be vigilant and follow the minimum health standards such as the wearing of masks and distancing.

“Kaning FLiRT Covid, although, bag-o siya na variant, but sumala sa experts dili siya ingon ana ka severe. Mura lang siya ug usual na flu,” he said.
