Filipino basketball prospect Kai Sotto is pursuing his desire to play in the NBA by saying he is joining the coming NBA draft.
The 7-foot-3 Filipino made the announcement on his Instagram account on Thursday, while extending his gratitude to the Adelaide 36ers following a season stint with the team in the NBL.
“I have declared for the 2022 NBA Draft. Please pray and support me during my quest to fulfill my ultimate dream,” said Sotto.

Sotto, who will turn 20 on May 11, is looking to become the first full-blooded and homegrown Filipino to play in the NBA.
His decision to declare for the NBA draft came just a day after he was named NBL Fans MVP in Australia.
Sotto thanked his family and his management staff East West Private for the guidance and support given him as he tries to pursue his NBA dream.
At the same time, he’s also grateful to the management, teammates, and coaching staff of the 36ers as well as agent Joel Beil for making him a better man and a better professional player.
“You all took me under your wings and challenged and mentored me to live up to expectations,” said Sotto.
He also thanked his fans and supporters – both old and new – for lifting him up on this incredible journey.
“Finally, an athlete like me doesn’t get to a certain point of his journey without the help and support of many coaches, trainers, sponsors, media, and even the army of bloggers who write about me endlessly. I hope to personally thank you all someday,” added the Filipino big man.
