Lo, Malabanan, Batacan lead winners in Panabo Swingers Golf Cup

Amidst the scorching heat that left the sunbaked and hard panned fairways of the Apo golf course unpredictable, some 120 golfers responded to the challenge by answering the siren call of the two shot gun starts for the first Panabo Swingers Charitable ARK (Act of Random Kindness) golf Cup.

Hosted by Panabo Dalisay Masonic Lodge the 18 hole one-day tournament using Modified Stable Scoring system fired off on April 20,2024 at the Apo Golf and Country Club.

As expected, members of the host club Apo Golf navigated the fairways and greens with familiarity. Thus, familiar names and members of the mother club Apo Golf led the winners for this one-day event.

Roderick Lo of Apo Golf emerged as the Class A gross champion by firing 2 over par 74 equivalent to 34 Stableford points with Apo board director Leo Yap (86) coming in as gross runner up for his 24 points. Jorge Martinez (73) and Ryan Guiang (90) took their share of the bounty by grabbing the class net champion and runner up diadem for the division.

Veteran Larry Baluso (81) a member of Apo golf PAL Team grabbed the Class B lowest gross plum with 27 points while Mark Villorente (83) contend himself for runner up finish with 25 points. Edwin Cayamanda (82) of the ForeFathers group eased out Robert Lim (85) of the Recovery 5:30 group for the division net title.

“This event is in support for the humanitarian projects of Panabo Dalisay Masonic Lodge 237 headed by WM Abelardo Gabasa Jr and as our way of enlightening the golfers and the public of the various Masonry philanthropic projects” said VW Franklin Buno, tournament director.

Class C division winners is led by Edge Davao columnist Engr, Chito Malabanan who fired an 8 over par 80 to grab the gross diadem for Class C. Jon Ortega (87) claimed the gross runner up honors for the division. Sharing the bounty for the net diadem are Jun Jun Quijada (40 net points) and Dick Arellano (39) who grabbed the champion and runner up honors, respectively.

Class D gross champion title went to Hanz Tagabucba (84) with Epe Rillo (89) of coming in as runner up. Omar Soriano fired a net 48 points for the net title with Richard Gerardino (43) coming in as net runner up for the division.

ForeFathers president Atty Ed Batacan fired three birdies for his 83 grabbed the gross diadem for the Senior’s Division easing out Rey Abear (90) who settled for the runner up honors. Tony Barro (38) and Rommel Cubelo (36) shared the limelight in the Senior’s division by taking home the net champion and runner up honors.

Lady golfers Tsuky Ortega (82) emerged as the low gross champion with Alyssa Quiogue (99) coming in as runner up. Charine Kato (89) pocketed the net champion plum for the Ladies Division outpointing Fe Echavez who settled for runner up honors.

The proceeds of this tournament will go to the various humanitarian programs of the PDML 237 based in Panabo City.

Golfers were entertained in the Awarding fellowship with the raffling of prizes headed by Fellowship host Iking Atillo and music provided a live band while partaking the buffet dinner and overflowing drinks offered by the host.

“We appreciate very much your support, our sponsors and friends but most especially you golfers, daghang salamat. As a way of our giving back to the golfers, all winners for tonight will be going home not only with their trophies but also some merchandise, appliances which we see as deserving for all the winners. Thank you very much” concluded Very Worshipful Franklin Buno PDGGM and tournament director.
