TAGUM CITY –The Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) in the Davao Region (OCD-11) has lauded the Davao del Norte provincial government headed by Gov. Anthony Del Rosario for having installed a sophisticated system of water level monitoring.
In a recent episode of Kapihan sa Kapitolyo, OCD-11 Assistant Regional Director Leni Duran Alegre told reporters and editors that the monitoring system enables the operation center of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) to alert local government units when to take pre-emptive or forced evacuation.
Aside from mounting cameras along river channel in major rivers of the province, PDRRMO has set up an automatic system to turn ‘sirens’ on providing people to move out from flood critical areas.
During the onslaught of typhoon Pablo, Davao del Norte registered zero-flood related death. Damage in agriculture, however, was estimated at about P1 billion.
In the same “Kapihan” media forum, ARD Alegre said that on top of a comprehensive flood central system, community water catchment facilities, debris management and re-greening are deemed as crucial elements in addressing massive flooding in the province of Davao del Norte. (PIA 11)
